Avatel was founded in 1986 by a group of engineers who had been designing microcomputer-based precision temperature instruments since 1979. The original DataScribes found rapid acceptance replacing paper chart recorders in the perishable goods transportation industry. Since most of the goods being monitored where agricultural produce such as lettuce, it didn't take long before field managers were requesting advanced solutions for monitoring and analyzing field conditions. Working with growers in California and Washington, and with researchers and advisors at UC Davis, Avatel spent the next decade refining its products and software to meet the needs of agriculture.
In 1999 Avatel, Inc. re-organized as Elucit, Inc. to pursue its vision of sensors for a connected world, and Avatel became a division of Elucit, Inc.
Today, Avatel products can be found monitoring growing conditions and pest emergence in fields and vineyards of almost every country in the world.
